Elspeth meets the King’s nephew, Captain someone or the other, and the two begin plotting a way to remove the magic created by the Providence Cards.

I started this over the summer, but lost interest around the 50% mark. I pushed through it the last couple of days because it was an easy read and I was bored. This book just didn’t capture my attention. The characters were boring, the Victorian setting was dull, and the plot felt contrived. I had no emotional attachment to Elspeth or Ravyn. They had decent chemistry and the few intimate scenes were well-written. But if I don’t care about the characters or plot, then it really doesn’t matter if their chemistry works. I’ve been in a reading slump the past few months, and many of the fantasy romance books have let me down in particular. That said, if you find yourself intrigued by the synopsis, you should definitely check it out. It may be a “not for me” story, but it may work for you.
