Unemployed actress Grey Brooks agrees to fake date disgraced film star Ethan Atkins in order to boost their careers and personal image.
It has been several months since I read this book and the only thing I really remember is disliking it intensely. While the cover art and description make this book seem like a fun romantic comedy, it was far from lighthearted. Alcoholism and the grief of losing a loved one are just two of the heavy topics explored in the narrative. I didn’t love Ethan or Grey as individuals or as a couple. As characters, they both annoyed me to no end. As a couple, there was a certain lack of chemistry and maturity level that made it hard to root for them. On top of disliking the characters and the romance, I found myself oddly disappointed in the Hollywood setting. Perhaps the scenes with the paperwork and meetings are more true to life, but I would like to see more about the production and ambiance of the film industry.
