Bartender Morgan Albright meets hotelier Miles Jameson when she relocates to be closer to her family after narrowly escaping the clutches of a serial killer.

Despite the interesting premise for this story, I found the execution to be lackluster and unmemorable. Morgan and Miles have decent chemistry, but their romance is tepid and boring. The antagonist is serial killer #621 in NR long backlist of titles. The amount of debt Morgan accrues from the identity theft is more interesting than the Big Bad stalking her later in the story. I want higher stakes for our heroine, hero, and villain. I want the suspense, action, and passion found in River’s End or Carnal Innocence.

The story shines best when it focuses on Morgan’s growing connection with her mother and grandmother. NR has a way of making these scenes heartfelt and emotional. Additionally, the small town setting and vibe is the perfect place for Morgan to realize her dreams. The array of character she meets, either from the town or from vacationers, is enjoyable. I don’t think I’ve ever visited or lived in such a cute small town, but I certainly enjoy reading about them! Overall, I find myself rather ambivalent about NR’s books released in the past few years and this one fails to connect with me too.
