Avery Grambs is pitted against a wealthy family when she unexpectedly inherits the vast fortune of a philanthropist, Tobias Hawthorne, after his passing.

I originally wrote a review for the first book of this series, but I have decided to change the review to include the series as a whole. These books are quick and easy reads with an interesting premise and unique characters. Avery is an enjoyable narrator, particularly as she is thrown into a hotbed of scandal and deceit with a notorious family. She constantly had to question the motives of the people around her, even those she loved most. The love triangle between her, Jameson, and Gayson was overly dramatic and lasted way too long. I’m not sure why Avery waffled between these two emotionally damaged brothers, but I guess more power to her. If you like the push and pull of love triangles, you’ll probably love this story.

The mystery wrapped in complicated puzzles was fascinating during the first book, tiresome during the second book, and eye rolley after the third. Did the overarching mystery add up to something unique by the end of the series? Yes, it was certainly a satisfying conclusion with an enjoyable epilogue. But making Every. Single. Clue. a piece of the puzzle was just so needlessly tedious. There had to be more ways to provide answers without adding more secret compartments and cumbersome riddles. I’m not sure how dedicated mystery readers would rate this book, but overall I enjoyed the experience.
