Game Review: The Quarry (2022)

in , , , , by Leigha, January 27, 2023

A group of summer camp counselors are pulled into a nightmare when they stay at the camp after it ends.

I primarily game with my husband, and he is not a horror fan. Me? I have always found horror in any medium to be engrossing, and I have a particular fondness for slasher films. When I saw the trailer for this game, I knew it was time to step outside my husband's gaming preferences and into my own.

The game is separated into chapters and features multiple character view-points. Decisions made by each character matters, both to their own survival as well as to the other counselors. Counselors killed could be saved, but it required restarting the game from the moment their path started on the death track. Saving some counselors meant replaying hours of content. I found myself constantly questioning my choices, particularly when it came to my favorite characters. I will say the ending felt abrupt and anticlimactic - an in-depth epilogue on the surviving counselors (if any survived) would have been perfect. Overall, I had a ton of fun and I can't wait to explore more in this genre!

For those curious minds, Emma and Jacob were the only campers to die in my campaign. Ryan and Laura also died, although I replayed the last chapter to save their lives.
