When the veil separating the fae from the human world falls, Estrella runs from her childhood home in the hopes of escaping the fae marking her as his mate.

Sigh...I'm never quite sure what to think about main characters as the chosen ones. And not just the chosen ones, but the ones of insurmountable beauty and soul that make all other characters go mad with power or want. While I liked Estrella, I never loved Estrella. Yet almost every single person she encounters either falls in lust or love with her. It can be challenging sinking into a novel when a dissonance between what other see and your vision do not match. To be fair, I didn't love Caelum either. Their was something about him and Etrella's relationship that felt like watching a car wreck in progress - it was hard to look away as Estrella slowly put together the pieces of their relationship with the little she knew about the fae.

The biggest saving grace of this book is the worldbuilding. Almost twenty percent of the beginning set up the world and Estrella's place in it. I find it all rather fascinating, but I could see where others might find it boring or slow. I also thoroughly enjoyed the ending despite the cliffhanger. If you hate cliffhangers, it's best to wait until all of the books are out so you can binge read them back-to-back. Finally, I'm not sure how I felt about the sex scenes. Spicy, yes. But emotionally satisfying? Not really. I know they felt connected to one another, but my connection as a reader to them was tenuous at best.
