When soon to be Shifter Queen Mesa Royal runs from her home after an attack on her life, she hides in the dreaded Blood pack, lead by the terrifying Alpha Tuslan, in this fantasy romance series.

I read the trilogy back-to-back so I figured I would write a review about the entire series rather than each individual book. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first two books of the series. Mesa and Tuslan had tons of chemistry, and the circumstances surrounding Mesa's arrival in the Blood kingdom create a perfect amount of tension and secrecy between the two. The second installment of the series continues to build their romance as Mesa's lies unravel in the face of her true identity. While their romance and character development starts strong, it fizzles out in the third book. Their characters both become too powerful and too perfect to create any sort of tension.

If found family is your thing, you might love this series. The Blood Pack members all play a part in creating a fun, found family vibe. In particular, I enjoyed the comradery the girls found with each other. It's always nice to see ladies supporting ladies in these stories. However, the last book introduces some new characters that, quite frankly, never needed to be in the story as they were only used as plot devices.

Probably the biggest let down is the magic system. The first two books were able to gloss over the world building issues, but the last installment requires a certain amount of understanding of the magic system to be interesting or understandable. The worldbuilding was murky at best, particularly the nuances of the magic system and the legend behind the Human Queens. While the ending may have been a let down, I enjoyed most of my time reading this series.
